Image Processing Labs

Below are a few of the Image Processing Labs that we have implemented at our past DK-12 laboratories. Click on the underlined to find out more.

INTRODUCTION TO IMAGE PROCESSING

By Gail Rosen

Introductory Lab manual and explanation sheet that was used in Lab sessions in June 2008.

IMAGE PROCESSING ACTIVITY QUESTIONS

By Dr. Gail Rosen

Lab Activity worksheet that asks questions about what was learned by the students from the Image Processing Activities. Worksheet asks particular questions about each of the laboratory activities that were done by students.

EDGE DETECTION GUI MATLAB CODE

By Dr. Gail Rosen & Modified by Steve Essinger

Edge Detection GUI implemented using MATLAB, simply load and run the code, make sure to have a file named MyPicture in jpeg format (MyPicture.jpg) to use this GUI. (Need Matlab for this to work)

EDGE DETECTION USING AVERAGE VALUES MATLAB CODE

By Dr. Gail Rosen & Modified by Steve Essinger

Same as the Edge Detection GUI listed above, but average values are used to help detect the edges in the picture. Make sure to have a file named MyPicture in jpeg format (MyPicture.jpg) to use this GUI.(Need Matlab for this to work)

______________________

TRANSFORMATION SLIDER GUI

By Dr. Gail Rosen & Modified by Steve Essinger

Transforms the contrast of an image based on the mathematical algorithm that the user selects. Make sure to have a file named MyPicture in jpeg format (MyPicture.jpg) to use this GUI. (Need Matlab for this to work)

DENOISING AN IMAGE

By Dr. Gail Rosen & Modified by Steve Essinger

Applies noise to an image, can either be Gaussian or Salt and Pepper, afterward the user can clean the image and try and restore back to its original quality.  Make sure to have a file named MyPicture in jpeg format (MyPicture.jpg) to use this GUI. (Need Matlab for this to work)

TINTING AN IMAGE MATLAB CODE

By Dr. Gail Rosen
Modified by Steve Essinger

Tints an image based on the RGB Value that is applied by the user, here students can get an idea of the quantitative analysis that is used in determining colors. Make sure to have a file named MyPicture in jpeg format (MyPicture.jpg) to use this GUI. (Need Matlab for this to work)

Median Image Correction Activity

By Ryan Coote

A pencil and paper activity where the students correct a pixel that is out of place with by comparing it to the Median number of the adjacent neighboring pixels.

______________________

Mean Processing Activity

By Ryan Coote

A pencil and paper activity where the students correct a pixel that is out of place by comparing it with the Mean of all the adjacent and surrounding pixels.
